The show I had heard about from my parents; they apparently remembered the original vaguely. So when they saw the remake, and I was at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 where they had a lot of posters advertising the show, it definitely captured my attention. The trailers also caught my interest, so I thought, “Okay, let’s go ahead and check out the show.” This show is a period drama and historical fiction, based on a book, and I have to say it is well-made. Now, is it super great? No. Is it super bad? No. I would use the word “watchable.” I liked the way the story led the adventure of what was the shogun and what the whole point of the story was supposed to be. I love the costumes, I love the sets, and the acting was great. It was definitely a very different take on a story I’m so used to, like big battle scenes or super violent stuff, and they did not have that with the story at all. They basically kept it very much like a mystery where you’re trying to solve things. There were a lot of elements of the show that I felt like they should’ve given warnings about, such as domestic violence they showed. There were just certain things that I feel like they should’ve had warnings for, even references to self-harm. So there was a lot in the show that I was like, “I don’t know if I think there should’ve been more warnings for people; this could’ve triggered things for them.” But the main plot was pretty good. Honestly, it’s a short series; it gets straight to the point, and you just follow what happens.
