I got to see the movie “Twisters” in theaters, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. What made it stand out was that it was different from the original but also paid homage to it. I had seen the original when I was younger, and although I didn’t have much memory of it, I do remember it being scary, especially the ending scene.
Having lived in Orlando, I experienced the Twister ride at Universal Studios, which no longer exists, but that experience was really cool. So, I have a fond memory of getting to experience that.
My expectation for the new movie was just to have fun and watch a cool thriller. Surprisingly, I actually cried while watching “Twisters.” Daisy, the actress, did an amazing job. The way she portrayed someone who went through something terrible and was trying to overcome it was really moving.
The main plot takes place in Oklahoma. The main character, Kate, wants to find a way to not only track tornadoes but also lessen their impact. She had been studying to get her PhD but didn’t complete it. Despite that, she was funding a college project related to her research. During this time, her four friends and her boyfriend passed away, which caused her to experience profound sadness. She left everything behind and moved to New York, but she still had a passion for her work.
Eventually, Kate gets the opportunity to return to Oklahoma and finish what she started. There, she meets storm trackers who help her with her project. I don’t want to reveal too much more of the plot, but overall, I thought it was a great blend of the old and the new. The connection to the characters was well done, making it a truly enjoyable film.
