Skeleton Crew Review: A Fresh Adventure in the Star Wars Universe
I’ll be honest—I was hesitant to watch Skeleton Crew on Disney+. After being disappointed by The Acolyte, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to give another Star Wars show a chance. But after seeing some interesting reviews and feedback, I decided to give it a shot. And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
What is Skeleton Crew About?
The show takes place on a planet called Tynnatt (previously thought to be called “Add” in early reports). The story follows four kids who don’t fully know each other but end up on an unexpected adventure. The two main characters, Ben and Neel, are supposed to take a big exam at school. However, one of them, feeling lonely and eager for adventure, stumbles upon an abandoned spaceship.
Curious about the ship’s origins, the kids explore it and accidentally activate the autopilot, launching them into space. This is a huge problem because no one on Tynnatt ever leaves—it’s a planet so isolated that its people never even knew about the Clone Wars or the larger galaxy.
The kids are soon captured by space pirates who believe that Tynnatt is a myth. While imprisoned, they meet a mysterious pirate leader who claims to be a Jedi. However, his motives seem questionable—he’s willing to use anyone for his own gain. When he hears about Tynnatt, he sees it as a hidden treasure trove and offers to take the kids home in exchange for riches.
As the series unfolds, the kids learn more about their planet, the galaxy beyond, and what it truly means to be free.
What I Liked About the Show
1. A Different Side of Star Wars – The show shifts focus from Jedi and Sith battles to the world of pirates. We get an inside look at their codes, hideouts, and way of life, which adds a fresh perspective to the franchise.
2. A Classic Adventure Story – Skeleton Crew reminded me of classic adventure films. The kids have to navigate unknown territories, solve problems, and find their way home—a structure that keeps the journey exciting.
3. A Well-Made Kids’ Show – At its core, Skeleton Crew is a kids’ show, and it embraces that. It has a lighthearted tone, moments of wonder, and a story centered on young characters discovering themselves.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I thought Skeleton Crew was a fun and well-crafted series. It’s different from other Star Wars shows, but in a good way. If you’re expecting something dark and intense, this might not be for you—but if you enjoy adventure, mystery, and a fresh take on the Star Wars universe, I’d definitely recommend giving it a watch!
