Spider-Man: Brand New Day Review — A Surprisingly Powerful Story About Growing Up
Spider-Man: Brand New Day was much better than I expected going in.
Figuring Out Your 20s
What really stood out to me was how honestly the film captured what it’s like to be in your 20s, trying to figure out your life. There’s this expectation that your 20s are supposed to be the best years of your life — and sure, some days feel that way. But a lot of the time, you’re tired, trying to figure out your career and your goals, trying to reconnect with old friendships, and navigating romance along the way.
Love, Loss, and Hard Choices
I think we all have that one person we love and care about, and part of us always wonders what it would’ve looked like to build a life with them. Watching Peter and MJ’s relationship unfold — especially the moment where she tells him she can’t remember him and doesn’t love him — was genuinely hard to watch.
The storyline with Jenna hit just as hard. Her devotion to her sister, and the lengths she went to because she felt so alone, said so much about how loneliness can shape the choices we make. There’s a line in the film about how some people just don’t get good lives, and it captures something real: it can feel like certain people get to have the life they want while others are left struggling for the basics — settling instead of getting what they actually need or desire.
Why It Works
But even with all of that, there’s an underlying hope running through the film — the idea of expecting the best and wanting the best for the people around you. I think that’s ultimately what makes the story so strong and powerful. I cried more than once watching it, and I’d absolutely recommend it.
At its core, this movie is about friendship, love, family, forgiveness, and choosing to believe the best in people. That sense of human connection is what stayed with me most.
