So, I have seen the original Alien movie, and I have to say it was not one of my favorite movies, but it was an interesting concept. I had heard about the other Alien movies but had not seen them; I had only seen the original. At San Diego Comic-Con, there was a lot of promo for this movie. I missed the panel, but I did see some recap videos and coverage online of what happened at the panel. When this new movie came out, it was getting a lot of buzz online. I saw a lot of discussion on social media platforms like X and TikTok. People were saying it was really enjoyable and that they really liked it. Hearing all the buzz, I thought, “You know what? I gotta check this out.”
I went into it very open-minded, thinking, “Okay, it’s gonna be good or it’s gonna be bad; not exactly sure.” I ended up really liking the movie. What I liked about it is that it has a simple plot that keeps you engaged. I was not bored, nor did I feel like, “Oh, when is this over?” You get attached to the characters and care about what’s happening. There was a lot in there that, honestly, I thought was really well-made. So many TV shows recently have bored me or just haven’t been that interesting, leaving me unsure how I feel about them. So, getting to watch something that genuinely interested me, where I actually wanted to see the ending and find out what happened, definitely surprised me.
The movie centers around a main character named Rain, who is a human living on a planet colonized by humans, where they are basically miners. She lives with her brother, Andy, who is not human; he is AI, programmed by her father to protect whatever Rain needs. We learn about this through the story. A group of her friends tells her that they will never be able to leave the planet and that most people are dying from disease or starvation. They have found a ship that is completely abandoned, and they plan to steal fuel from it to try to reach a better colony—one with sunlight, food, resources, and just an overall better life. Rain is very hesitant, especially because they need her and Andy, the AI, to open the doors and portals to access the fuel. When they board the ship, they have no idea it is infested with aliens. You have to watch to find out what happens next.
It’s very interesting to see how the storyline unfolds and what the main plot is. There are a lot of theories, and if they do make a part two, I am definitely interested in seeing it. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good thriller with a solid storyline, and I thought the actors did a great job. Honestly, I liked the use of puppets and practical effects, which paid homage to the original movie. There was a lot in there that I definitely enjoyed, and overall, I do recommend seeing it. I thought it was pretty good.
