Movie Review: Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025)
Starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is a non-stop thrill ride from beginning to end. Watching it felt like being on a rollercoaster that never lets up. There were so many moments where I caught myself holding my breath, literally having to remind myself, “Breathe… it’s okay, you can breathe.”
If you haven’t seen Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, I highly recommend watching it first. The Final Reckoning picks up from where the previous film left off. The main threat in the story is a powerful artificial intelligence known as The Entity, which seeks to take control of the world by eliminating humanity entirely. Its goal is complete dominance—absolute control of all systems, with no room for human freedom.
Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, and he’s once again joined by his loyal team: Luther Stickell (played by Ving Rhames), Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), and others. Their mission is to retrieve two interlocking keys that lead to The Entity’s original source code. Luther creates a hacking mechanism that would force The Entity into a sealed cyber-prison—effectively neutralizing its threat without destroying the world.
One of the film’s standout moments is the intense underwater sequence. Ethan must dive into freezing waters to access a locked system, and the scene was so suspenseful that I had to close my eyes at one point. The entire audience was silent for what felt like 20 straight minutes—it was that gripping.
There’s also an epic mid-air fight scene between Ethan and the film’s main antagonist, Gabriel (played by Esai Morales), aboard a rapidly deteriorating plane. Not to mention the opening scene, where Ethan is captured and tortured before staging a dramatic escape with Grace (played by Hayley Atwell), who returns from Part One. The choreography, the pacing, and the sheer intensity reminded me of the John Wick series—but with the classic Mission: Impossible spy-tech twist.
What I appreciated most was the film’s underlying message. The Entity thrives on division, hate, and revenge. Ethan’s philosophy is that the way to defeat it is by doing the opposite—choosing forgiveness, compassion, and unity. That theme really resonated with me. As someone who has struggled with forgiveness, seeing a blockbuster action film explore that message was unexpectedly moving.
Overall, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is an action-packed, emotionally driven thriller that delivers on every level. The storyline is compelling, the performances are powerful, and the visuals are stunning. It’s a must-watch for fans of the franchise and action movie lovers alike.
