I heard about this movie from Tumblr—yes, I know, I still have a Tumblr account, and yes, I still go on it. I wanted to check it out because it looked really cute and honestly had a very sweet storyline. The whole story centers around the main character, Thelma. She’s a grandma who’s very close with her grandson, her daughter, and her daughter’s husband.
During this time, Thelma gets scammed by someone pretending to be her grandson. The scammer tells her that he’s been arrested and that an attorney will call, asking her to send $10,000. Believing the story to be true, she gives them the money without realizing it’s a scam. After hanging up, she calls her daughter and tries to reach her grandson. Eventually, the grandson, daughter, and her daughter’s husband get in touch and tell her that they’re perfectly fine and that nothing bad happened. That’s when she realizes she’s been scammed. She gets really upset and decides she doesn’t want these people taking her money. So, she teams up with an old friend of hers to try to get her money back.
In the process, you see how she wants to fight for her independence, even as her family worries about her. The movie is a comedy but also very sweet. The storyline is one you don’t see much nowadays, and I honestly enjoyed it—I even watched it twice! The family dynamics were very lovable; I loved seeing a positive portrayal of a family that respects and loves each other, rather than the typical “wife and husband are always angry with each other” trope. There was so much I genuinely enjoyed, and honestly, they could even do a sequel with how much I liked it. So yeah, I definitely recommend this movie!
