If you enjoyed the original The Bad Guys (2022), you’ll find plenty to like in the sequel The Bad Guys 2. For me, this film offered the same fun tone, familiar characters, and a new twist that kept things interesting.
What I Liked
The concept: seeing the reformed criminals trying to be “good guys” again — but being pulled into one last high-stakes heist — is clever and entertaining. The theme of what makes someone a good guy vs. a bad guy is handled in a playful family-friendly way, with lovable characters and gutsy jokes. The characters are easy to root for, and the voice-cast delivers: Sam Rockwell as Mr. Wolf Marc Maron as Mr. Snake Craig Robinson as Mr. Shark Anthony Ramos as Mr. Piranha Awkwafina as Ms. Tarantula (aka “Webs”) Plus newcomers: Danielle Brooks as Kitty Kat, Maria Bakalova as Pigtail, and Natasha Lyonne as Doom. The film is very family-friendly: good for younger viewers (with parental discretion) and enjoyable by older viewers thanks to its humor and smart touches. It sets up potential for a third movie, which adds to the fun.
Plot Summary (Spoilers Ahead)
In The Bad Guys 2 (2025), the gang of reformed animal criminals from the first film — Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha and Ms. Tarantula — are adjusting to their new “good guy” lives after turning in their villainous past.
But the peace is short-lived: they are pulled into a global heist masterminded by a new female-led criminal team called “The Bad Girls,” featuring Kitty Kat (snow leopard), Pigtail (wild boar engineer), and Doom (raven).
The Bad Guys must work together, navigate trust issues (both among themselves and with society), and figure out who really has the moral high ground. Their old reputations haunt them even as they try to do the right thing.
In the end, the movie reinforces friendship, redemption, and the challenge of changing one’s reputation — while still delivering fun heist-action, comedy and heart.
My Verdict
I would recommend this movie, especially if you’re looking for a fun family film that doesn’t take itself too seriously and embraces a clever premise.
If I had one caveat: it still leans heavily on the first film’s formula, so if you were hoping for radically new territory, you might find it a bit familiar. But honestly, that didn’t bother me: it was a solid ride.
Why It Works For Families & What to Note
Works for kids and adults: the characters are easy to connect with, the jokes land, the message about being better than your past is positive. Good choice for a family movie night — the movie doesn’t rely on heavy romantic subplots or intense violence; the heist angle adds excitement. If you’re watching with younger children, note: there is some criminal activity (as integral to the plot) but nothing graphic; it remains rated PG.
Final Thoughts
Overall, The Bad Guys 2 struck the right balance for me of fun, heart and ambition. If you liked the first movie, this is a worthy sequel and I’m optimistic about the series moving forward. If you’re looking for a clean, engaging movie to enjoy with family or friends without heavy drama, this is a good bet.
