Jurassic World 2025 Movie Review – A Dinosaur Disaster or Just Extinct of Effort?

Jurassic World 2025 Movie Review – A Dinosaur Disaster or Just Extinct of Effort?

As someone who grew up on the legacy of Jurassic Park, I went into the 2025 Jurassic World movie with cautious optimism. After all, the franchise has had its highs (Jurassic Park, 1993) and lows (Jurassic World: Dominion, 2022), but there’s always been that core fascination with dinosaurs and survival that brings fans back.

Unfortunately, this latest installment felt like a creative extinction event.

⚡ My Experience: Lightning Strikes—Literally

Funny enough, I was scheduled to see the film on July 4th in Florida at my local AMC Dolby Cinema. But right as the previews were ending, lightning literally struck the building, knocking out power. We were all sent home and had to rebook our showings. Maybe that was a sign…

I finally saw it that Sunday—and honestly, the movie left me wishing the power had stayed off.

🦖 Plot Summary (Spoiler Warning)

The 2025 Jurassic World movie attempts to reboot the franchise with a fresh storyline—though the execution leaves much to be desired.

This time around, the story revolves around a mysterious raptor candy (yes, really), which genetically influences dinosaur behavior and supposedly plays a key role in a new biotech conspiracy. A modern family of four (whose names I barely remember because their characters were so forgettable) are thrust into the chaos after discovering a hidden lab on a supposedly safe nature tour.

Ali Wong stars as Dr. Lian Chen, a biotech whistleblower who’s trying to expose the dark secrets behind the candy. She’s one of the few bright spots in the film. Meanwhile, Johansson Ramierez (played by Pedro Pascal) plays the film’s villain, a corporate head whose greed fuels the whole disaster. Pascal’s performance had energy, although the script gave him very little to work with.

We also get Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Cole Jensen, the reluctant ex-dinosaur wrangler turned professor. Sadly, Bailey seemed checked out, delivering a bland performance that lacked conviction or charm. Most of the scenes with his character dragged on.

The family subplot—clearly added to pull at heartstrings—felt forced and hollow. The actors portraying the family, especially the child character, were poorly directed. Their acting felt awkward, their dialogue was clunky, and their decisions were frustrating at best. Characters constantly screamed, made dangerous and illogical choices, and placed themselves in peril just to move the plot along.

The dinosaurs? Surprisingly scarce. Despite the franchise’s name, dinosaurs were barely present—and when they did appear, the CGI was underwhelming.

🎬 Themes: Healthcare, Greed & Missed Potential

The film tries to tackle themes like healthcare privatization, biotech ethics, and corporate greed, but the messaging gets lost in a muddy plot. These social commentaries could’ve been powerful, but the writing lacked the subtlety or depth needed to explore them meaningfully.

Rather than weaving these ideas into the story, the film hits you over the head with clunky exposition and villain monologues.

🧬 What Went Wrong?

Flat Characters: No real development. Hard to care. Weak Dialogue: Too much yelling, not enough logic. Uneven Tone: The movie couldn’t decide if it was a family drama, sci-fi thriller, or action-adventure. Pacing Issues: Long, drawn-out scenes with very little payoff. Scarce Dinosaurs: For a Jurassic film, they were oddly missing.

🏁 Final Verdict

I left the theater feeling bored, disappointed, and confused. This film had potential—with actors like Ali Wong and Pedro Pascal, and a rich franchise legacy—but it fell short in every department: writing, directing, effects, and storytelling.

I genuinely wouldn’t recommend this film, even to hardcore dinosaur fans. It felt like a rushed cash grab rather than a true cinematic experience.

Rating: 2 out of 10 – Extinct of entertainment.
